Being your own modern day medicine man or woman is easier than you think!

Check out this short video.It's all about knowledge, confidence and faith in your intuition and your body's innate ability to heal and stay well when given the right tools. Growing up with a dad who lived and breathed the love of plants was a true gift. We always had a large garden and there were many types of herbs growing all around the outside and inside of our house.

When we would take any type of road trip my dad would always be on the lookout for plants along the side of the road that he could teach us about.I can still vividly remember the times he would see something that he wanted to collect or teach us about, he would pull the car over and show us what part of the plant was used, when was the best time of year to collect it, the botanical name, the history and use of it and whether it was medicinal or "right on the spot" edible!

Cars would slow down to see the sight of all these little kids along the side of the road picking and munching on what looked like weeds!  A few times I remember being dressed in our Sunday best because we had been on our way to church. My mom was always patient and incredible no matter what adventures my dad would get us into.  More than once we would file into church a little dirtier than we should be!

All around the world for thousands of years indigenous people had their own medicine man or woman.  Knowledge was passed on generation to generation and if a member of the tribe or group had a fever, a skin wound, indigestion, insomnia or any other host of ailments that humans get - a tea, a poultice or an extract was brewed up from a gathering of leaves, stems, twigs and roots to help you get well.

The art of making medicine out of plants is even something many of you know from your grandmothers, grandfathers, aunts and uncles.Using plants and herbs to take care of yourself and your family is the way it is supposed to be.  Take the time to learn all you can and what works for you.
